Network                                               Network cables are used for short distances
                                                                 in local area networks like PCs, routers and
           cables                                                switches. On the other hand, optical fibre
                                                                 cables are mainly used for long distances or
                                                                 for applications requiring high bandwidth or
                                                                 electrical isolation.
                                                                 However, network cables are also often used
                                                                 in larger network installations in wiring
                                                                 closets/rack cabinets together with
                                                                 optical fibre network cables.

           There are two basic types of network cables:          ‘Twisted pair’ is a network cable containing
